I've just started to give mosaics a try. This is my first attempt at an owl and I'm pretty pleased with the results. I used Smalti mosaic pieces which have to be cut to fit your design, once I got the hang of it I couldn't stop. I glued the pieces on top of a painted piece of mdf and then cut regular flat mosaic tiles to frame the owl. The piece was then secured onto a gold piece of mdf.
